Objective

Design the onboarding interview process that sets WardrobeAI apart from every other styling service. This is not a multiple-choice quiz — it's a genuine conversation that helps the AI understand the customer's personal style, body, lifestyle, and wardrobe gaps.

Why a "Style Interview" Instead of a Quiz?

Competitors (Stitch Fix, Wantable, DailyLook) use standard style quizzes with:

  • "Describe your style: Classic, Boho, Edgy, etc."
  • "What's your price range?"
  • "Rate these items from 1-5"

These don't capture context, body reality, wardrobe gaps, style references, or invariants.

Proposed Interview Structure

Phase 1: Warm-Up

  • "Tell me about your week — what do you usually do?"
  • "What are the 3 things you wear most? What do you love about them?"
  • "What's in your closet that you never wear?"

Phase 2: Style Discovery

  • Show 3-5 outfit images, ask what they like/dislike about each
  • "If you could steal someone's wardrobe, whose would it be?"
  • Derive style dimensions: color palette, silhouette, formality, pattern tolerance

Phase 3: Fit & Body

  • Body shape descriptors (not just number sizing)
  • Known brand size mappings
  • Fit preferences (fitted vs. loose, tuck vs. untuck)
  • Fabric preferences

Phase 4: Invariants (free-form, crucial differentiator)

  • "What are your fashion hard lines? Things you will never wear?"
  • "Colors you never wear? Always wear?"
  • "Any brands you love or hate?"

Phase 5: Aspirations

  • "If you could change one thing about how you dress, what would it be?"
  • "What's coming up that you need clothes for?"
  • "Refresh your whole look, fill gaps, or just get fun pieces?"

AI Implementation

  • Interview should feel like a stylish friend, not a chatbot
  • Output structured profile:
    • styleDimensions
    • fitProfile
    • invariants (free-form hard lines)
    • wardrobeGaps
  • Iterative — can be re-done anytime
  • Consider human stylist for first interviews to train the AI

Deliverable

Full interview script and AI prompt design at product/style-interview.md — all 5 phases, response parsing schema, output style profile data model.
