Objective

Design the vendor partner program that sources inventory from small businesses and boutique brands. Define partnership structure, onboarding, return policies, and scaling plan.

Phase 1: Partnership Model (Vendor-as-Supplier)

How It Works

  • Vendors list their available inventory through our platform/dashboard
  • We purchase at wholesale/consignment pricing
  • We take responsibility for returns (customer returns come to us, not the vendor)
  • Vendors provide detailed sizing/fit data for each item
  • Vendors get: new customer discovery + bulk/regular orders + brand marketing via our social channels

Vendor Requirements (Phase 1)

  • Must have an excellent return policy themselves (or agree to our terms)
  • Must provide standard size charts plus any known fit quirks
  • Must be able to fulfill orders within 3-5 business days
  • Must be a small business or independent designer (not a mass retailer)
  • Must agree to our quality standards
  • US-based preferred (for shipping speed/returns)

Vendor Benefits

  • Guaranteed minimum order? Or pay-per-piece-sold?
  • Feature on our social channels ("Designer Spotlight")
  • Access to customer feedback data (fit preferences, style trends)
  • Predictable revenue stream

Vendor Onboarding Process

  1. Application (website form)
  2. Review + sample request
  3. Fit/sizing documentation
  4. Inventory catalog upload
  5. Pricing agreement
  6. Logistics setup
  7. Active partnership

Phase 2: Scaling to Warehousing

When

  • After reaching 500+ active subscribers
  • Or when vendor fulfillment becomes a bottleneck

Model

  • Hold inventory from top-performing brands in our warehouse
  • Bulk order discounts → better margins
  • Faster shipping (no vendor wait)
  • Quality control at warehouse level
  • Return processing in-house

Potential First Partners (to contact)

Boutique Wholesale Marketplaces (access to many small brands)

  • FashionGo — 1000s of boutique brands, LA-based, integrated with MAGIC show
  • JOOR — 14K+ brands, 600K+ buyers, B2B wholesale platform
  • Bloom Wholesale — LA-based, made-in-USA women's boutique apparel
  • Trendsi — curated wholesale marketplace for boutiques

Independent Designers to Research

  • Search Etsy's top women's clothing sellers (boutique, not mass-produced)
  • Instagram small fashion brands with strong followings
  • Local/regional designers and seamstresses
  • Ethical/sustainable fashion independents

Key Research Areas

  1. What are the top 20 small/independent women's clothing brands by customer satisfaction?
  2. What's the typical wholesale-to-retail markup for boutique clothing? (2x? 3x? 4x?)
  3. Which wholesale marketplaces offer the best return-friendly terms?
  4. What consignment terms are standard for subscription boxes?
  5. Who are the ethical/sustainable independent designers that align with our brand values?
  6. Minimum order quantities from boutique suppliers (can we do test orders?)
  7. What's the average boutique vendor's production lead time?

Deliverable
