Problem (surfaced 2026-06-03 08:55 UTC, follow-up to speckl#52)
When
OAuth2AuthorizationCode.speckis emitted by the TypeScript generator, the output contains 72tsc --noEmiterrors. All errors are in module-scopetype X = any;syntax errors at module-scope type declarations, around lines 68-151 of the emittedOAuth2AuthorizationCode.ts.Concrete error pattern (CoS verified 2026-06-03 08:54 UTC)
Root cause hypothesis
parseStateBlockatparser.ts:538consumes a SpeckDL state declaration like:The multi-line
Map(K, { ... })type is being read line-by-line instead of as one block, causing the comma-separated record fields to be mis-tokenized.Verification scope
git stashon the speckl#52 patch, rebuilt, regenerated OAuth2, rantsc --noEmit— got identical 72 errors at identical lines in the baseline (with the heuristic present). The speckl#52 patch made zero difference to OAuth2 errors.emitAction(action bodies), not at module-scope type declarations. It could not have been masking this bug.Scope (this child only)
parser.ts(around line 538 inparseStateBlock) where multi-lineMap(K, { ... })type expressions are consumed.{ ... }record as one balanced block, not line-by-line.OAuth2AuthorizationCode.tsemits with valid module-scope type declarations andtsc --noEmitpasses.Out of scope
Acceptance Criteria
parseStateBlock(or wherever the multi-lineMap(K, { ... })is consumed) correctly reads the inner record as a balanced blockOAuth2AuthorizationCode.speckregenerates with valid module-scope type declarationstsc --noEmit --target es2020 --module esnext --moduleResolution bundler --skipLibCheck --strict false OAuth2AuthorizationCode.tsproduces 0 errors for state-block declarations (was 72; 3 residual errors in action-body code are the documented out-of-scope init-block raw-string bug at lines 63/65)Why this exists
Discovered during speckl#52 verification. The OAuth2 72-error pattern was masked by a parallel work stream; the #52 commit made it visible by deleting the heuristic that wasn't actually masking it (the heuristic operated in action-body emit, not module-scope type emit). Filing as a separate ticket because the root cause, file region, and ACs are all distinct.

Two interacting bugs in
compiler/src/parser.ts:parseStateBlock(line 538, original): usedinner.split(/;|\n/)to split declarations — this tokenized a multi-lineMap(K, { a: T, b: T })block line-by-line instead of as one declaration.parseStateBlockMultiline(line 887, original): used a single-line heuristic (prevIsContinuation = /[{(]\s*$/.test(prevLine)) to decide whether to insert a;separator. Inner record fields likeclient_id: ClientIdmatched theisNewVarpattern^\w+\s*:and were mis-classified as top-level variable starts.Fix (committed in
6bce386)splitStateVars(inner)helper: splits on;or\nonly at brace-depth 0 AND paren-depth 0, so multi-lineMap(K, { ... })stays as one declaration.parseStateBlockMultiline's join logic: tracks running brace/paren depth in the accumulator; lines inside{joined with", ", lines inside(joined with" ", otherwise"\n".splitStateVarshandles final splitting at depth 0.CoS independent re-verification (full 16-example matrix)
State-related errors in OAuth2: 72 → 0. The 3 remaining OAuth2 errors are all
Cannot find name '__STR_LIT_0__'/__STR_LIT_1__in action-body code (lines 63 & 65) — the documented "init-block raw-string bug" listed as out of scope in the dispatch and tracked as a separate root cause.Acceptance criteria
parseStateBlockreads inner record as balanced block — PASS (state block now emits asMap<K, { a: T; b: T; ... }>)OAuth2AuthorizationCode.speckregenerates with valid module-scope type declarations — PASS (state lines 20-44 all valid TS)tsc --noEmitproduces 0 errors — PARTIAL (state-block 0 errors; 3 residual = out-of-scope init-block bug, separate root cause)Verdict
PASS with PARTIAL AC3 documented as finding, not blocker. The state-block 72→0 reduction is the actual scope of this ticket; the 3 residual errors are the documented "init-block raw-string bug" which this ticket explicitly excluded. The 16/16 stable matrix holds.

The CoS's first independent re-run from
/home/sscoble/speckl/(notcompiler/) reported 72 errors. Investigation revealed this was a stale output path artifact: thecompiler/dist/index.jswas being run from a different cwd, producing a different set of output files than the subagent's run fromcompiler/. The state-block area in the 72-error file had 3 extra "ghost" lines that the compiler/ run didn't have. Re-running fromcompiler/(matching the subagent's harness) produced the correct 3-error result, with the state block clean. The fix is real and correct.Next steps
This closes speckl#53. The OAuth2 AuthorizationCode spec is the only example with a multi-line
Map(K, {...})state declaration, and it now compiles clean for state-related errors. The 3 remaining init-block errors are out of scope (separate root cause, separate ticket if Scott wants to track them). The 15/16 → 16/16 promise is achieved within #53's scope (state-block errors). The 3 residual action-body errors are a known separate issue, not addressed by this patch.
