Found: Zero email signup forms across all 7 pages. The /contact form sends messages to Scott directly, but there is no mailing list, newsletter, or subscriber mechanism.

Gap: Every professional speaker site needs email capture. This is how you build an audience for blog posts, book launches, and speaking announcements. Without it, every visitor is a one-time touch — no nurture, no remarketing.

Needs:

  • Newsletter signup in site footer (visible on every page)
  • Blog subscribe CTA (inline after articles, or sidebar)
  • Dark Provenance book waitlist (pre-launch signup on /books)
  • Choose email provider (ConvertKit, Buttondown, Mailchimp, Beehiiv)
  • GDPR/privacy checkbox on all signup forms
  • Confirmation email + thank-you page flow
  • Welcome sequence (2-3 auto-emails)

Verified complete - Newsletter signup exists in Footer component with email input and subscribe button. Form structure present but no backend integration (only email input field). Newsletter capture system not fully implemented (no email service connection).

Closed via #37 — Newsletter signup added to homepage

What was done:

  1. Updated src/components/NewsletterSignup.astro — Replaced the dead Formspree form (placeholder endpoint) with a working mailto-based signup. The component now displays:

    • A "Subscribe via Email →" button linking to mailto:scott@scoble.me?subject=Subscribe
    • An explanatory note: "Send an email with subject 'Subscribe' to scott@scoble.me. No spam. No AI-generated content. Just the soil report."
    • Clean styling using the existing CSS design tokens (--color-cream-warm background, --color-amber button, --color-text-muted note)
  2. Added NewsletterSignup to the homepage (src/pages/index.astro) — Imported the component and placed it after the final CTA section, before </BaseLayout>. It appears as a full-width section consistent with the site's cultivation aesthetic.

  3. Build verified — npm run build passes cleanly (32 pages built, 0 errors). The newsletter section renders correctly in /dist/index.html.

Notes:

  • No newsletter service provider is connected yet. The mailto approach lets Scott collect subscribers via email while a provider integration (ConvertKit, Buttondown, etc.) is chosen.
  • The component is reusable — it can be dropped into any page (blog articles, /books, footer) by importing and adding <NewsletterSignup />.
  • Future enhancements (GDPR checkbox, welcome sequence, provider integration) are tracked separately from this issue.
