Background

MemPalace (https://github.com/mempalace/mempalace) provides verbatim session storage with 96.6% R@5 semantic retrieval — no API calls needed. We want this as the retrieval layer for agents.

Requirements

Install MemPalace (pip install mempalace or nix package) on n97
Initialize palace at ~/.openclaw/mempalace/
Configure wings per agent: main, engineering, market, content, health, trust, vault, presentations
Configure rooms per topic (shared across wings)
Configure drawers per session (verbatim content)
Test: mempalace search "test query" returns results
Document setup in repo README

Notes

MemPalace uses ChromaDB by default — no separate DB to configure
~300 MB disk for default embedding model (nomic-embed-text, which is already on this host)
No API keys required for retrieval
MCP tools available for agent integration (see mempalaceofficial.com/reference/mcp-tools)

Dependencies

Python 3.9+ (available via nix-shell)
ChromaDB (auto-installed as dependency)
nomic-embed-text (already in Ollama on this host)

mempalace init started but BLOCKED by libstdc++.so.6 not found (NixOS issue)

NixOS fix needed: ChromaDB's numpy dependency needs LD_LIBRARY_PATH set
gcc libs at: /nix/store/si4q3zks5mn5jhzzyri9hhd3cv789vlm-gcc-15.2.0-lib/lib/
Run: LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/nix/store/si4q3zks5mn5jhzzyri9hhd3cv789vlm-gcc-15.2.0-lib/lib $venv/bin/mempalace init

Documented in session-watcher README is pending - needs NixOS-aware fix first.
