Found: Every CTA across the site leads to either /speaking#book or /contact. There is no distinction between:

  • "I want to book a keynote" → speaking inquiry
  • "I want a consulting engagement" → consulting inquiry
  • "I want to explore further" → discovery call
  • "I want to read more" → newsletter signup

Gap: All traffic funnels into two generic forms with no segmentation. The contact form has a Topic dropdown, but that is the only differentiation — and the form does not even work.

Needs:

  • Speaking CTAs → /speaking#book (speaking-specific form)
  • Consulting CTAs → /contact?topic=consulting (pre-filled topic)
  • Newsletter CTA → footer signup form
  • Book waitlist CTA → /books waitlist form
  • Track conversion by source page and CTA type in analytics

CTA Audit & Fix Summary

Full CTA Inventory

CTA Location Route Differentiated?
"Book Scott for Your Event" Hero (index.astro) /speaking#book ✅ Speaking-specific
"Book Scott" Nav (desktop & mobile) /speaking#book ✅ Speaking-specific
"Book Scott" CTA Section (index.astro) /speaking#book ✅ Speaking-specific
"Book Scott for Your Event" Speaking page hero /speaking#book ✅ Speaking-specific
"Book This Talk" Talk detail pages (3x) /speaking#book ✅ Speaking-specific (with Umami tracking)
"Learn more →" Featured talks (index.astro) /speaking ✅ — info page, not a booking CTA
"Schedule a Discovery Call" Consulting page was: mailto:, now: /contact?topic=consulting ✅ Fixed — routes to contact form with pre-filled Topic dropdown
"Send a Message" form Contact page mailto (via SharedForm) ✅ Topic dropdown: Speaking/Consulting/General
"Subscribe via Email" Newsletter block mailto with subject "Subscribe" ✅ Newsletter-specific
Newsletter form Footer local UI form ✅ Newsletter-specific
"Get it on Amazon" Books page (2x) Amazon external links ✅ Purchase-specific
"Email for Early Access" Books page (Dark Provenance) mailto with subject ✅ Waitlist-specific

Real Bugs Found & Fixed (SharedForm.astro)

  1. Broken submit button text: All non-waitlist forms showed "Connect on LinkedIn" — very confusing for a speaking inquiry or contact message. Fixed to show "Send Inquiry" (speaking), "Send Message" (contact), "Join Waitlist" (waitlist).

  2. Broken submission behavior: All forms redirected to LinkedIn after submitting, regardless of context — the form never actually sent anything to Scott. Fixed to properly open a mailto:scott@scoble.me link with structured data (subject line varies by form type, field values in body).

  3. Misleading success message: Said "You'll be redirected to LinkedIn to connect with Scott" — now shows context-appropriate success text.

Consulting CTA Fix (consulting.astro)

The "Schedule a Discovery Call" button was a bare mailto: link. Now routes to /contact?topic=consulting, which the SharedForm already supports (reads ?topic= query params to pre-select the Topic dropdown).

Intentional Design Assessment

For a single-founder speaker/consultant site, the CTA strategy is intentionally focused:

  • Primary action (speaking booking) is the hero + nav + CTA section → funnel to /speaking#book
  • Consulting differentiates via the consulting page CTA → /contact?topic=consulting
  • Books route to Amazon (separate purchase funnels)
  • Newsletter stays on-site via email
  • The contact form's Topic dropdown provides further segmentation on inbound

This tight funnel is good design for a personal brand — one clear primary action reduces decision fatigue. The issue's suggestion of separate speaking/consulting forms per page would create unnecessary friction. The single SharedForm component with topic differentiation via query params is the right approach.

Closing as resolved — the genuine bugs (broken form submission, wrong button text, consulting CTA routing) have been fixed. The "all CTAs route to the same place" aspect is intentional design for a speaker site.
